TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — A man convicted of opening fire on police officers who were executing a no-knock search warrant at his southern New Jersey home is now facing more than 130 years in prison.
Jaime Gonzalez of Lakewood was found guilty of attempting to murder five of the 11 officers involved in the September 2009 raid. The five included Officer Jonathan Wilson, who was blinded in one eye after being shot in the face and has since retired on disability.
The 43-year-old Gonzalez was also convicted of aggravated assault on three more officers, including one who was shot in the foot and another who was struck by a round in his bullet-proof vest. TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Prosecutors say a man who fatally shot his neighbor after they feuded over a parking space at a central New Jersey apartment complex has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison.
Wayne Voorhees will have to serve 85 percent of his term before becoming eligible for parole. And after he’s released from prison, the 52-year-old Ewing resident will have to serve five years of supervised release.
Voorhees had pleaded guilty last December to aggravated manslaughter in the July 2011 death of 24-year-old Timothy Rivella.
Mercer County prosecutors say Voorhees was in his unit at the Versailles apartment complex when he intentionally shot Rivella. Voorhees then held authorities at bay for nearly eight hours before police stormed the unit and found him with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA – An Argentine woman has decided to marry the man convicted of killing her twin sister.
Fox News reported that 23-year-old Edith Casas married Victor Cingolani on Valentine’s Day, and she denies that her husband shot her twin sister Johana to death more than two years ago.
Cingolani, 28, was handcuffed and taken to prison immediately after the wedding ceremony, while a mob gathered outside the civil registry office to throw eggs and stones at the couple, according to Fox News.
The groom says he is innocent, despite his conviction and his 13-year-prison sentence.
The bride’s mother, Marcelina del Carmen Orellana, said she does not agree with her daughter’s decision.
“I’ve always said that she is threatened by the Cingolani family; I’m afraid that something might happen to her because he is a killer and a manipulator,” she said to local media.
(CNN) — An Idaho man has been charged with assaulting a minor after he allegedly uttered a racial slur and slapped a 2-year-old boy who cried on a Delta plane as it began the final descent into Atlanta, court papers show.
Reached by phone Friday, Joe Rickey Hundley of Hayden, Idaho, declined to comment to CNN and referred inquiries to his attorney. The attorney couldn’t be immediately reached for comment Friday.
Delta Air Lines is cooperating with the federal investigation into the altercation between two passengers, spokesman Paul Skrbec said. “We apologize for any inconvenience this caused for the passengers onboard,” he said.
The boy’s mother, Jessica Bennett, 33, of Minnesota told the FBI that she and her son were seated in row 28, seat B, on February 8 on Delta Flight 721 that originated in Minneapolis, according to an FBI agent’s affidavit filed in U.S. District Court in Atlanta…
